Austin Akers is a strategic communications specialist with extensive experience in media, politics, and global advocacy. He is a co-founder of Interscribe, where he helps organizations, businesses, and international actors develop effective messaging, navigate crises, and engage key audiences.
Previously, Austin served as Press Secretary at a leading international non-governmental organization, where he led media strategy, external affairs training, and press operations. He has trained policymakers, civil society leaders, government officials, and media professionals worldwide on crisis communications, digital strategy, and public messaging. His background also includes work in national politics, where he developed and executed communications strategies in high-profile political and policy environments.
Austin holds a master’s degree in discourse and argumentation studies from the University of Amsterdam, focusing on political persuasion and media influence, and a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Samford University. With a deep understanding of public affairs and strategic storytelling, he helps organizations prepare to shape narratives that inform, persuade, and drive impact.
When he’s not developing communications that move the needle, you can find Austin participating in election observation missions, curating his ever-growing vinyl collection, or testing the boundaries of sarcasm.
Brent Jensen is a digital strategist, marketer, and designer who has worked on topics ranging from human rights to democracy. In his work for the Center for Victims of Torture, he led the development of a web app that allows users take a deep dive into the complex and interconnected human relationships at the center of a human rights issue. This allows advocates and journalists to better identify and plan interventions.
Brent began his career as a graphic designer in the private sector and became increasingly interested in using digital communication tools to fight oppression and injustice worldwide. As part of his work, he has been to Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Tunisia, and elsewhere to train politicians, government officials, activists, and civil society organizations on effective digital communication strategies. Throughout his career, Brent has aligned himself with organizations dedicated to making a positive impact on the communities they serve.
He has bachelor degrees in graphic design and mass communication from Drake University and an master's degree in global and international education from Drexel University.
He lives in Minneapolis with his wife and two children and is an ardent soccer fan.
Alison Schafer is a communications expert with years of experience working in journalism and outreach all over the world. She is a long-time media trainer and communications expert and has worked for international development organizations, the U.S. State Department, and many other government and non-governmental organizations. She has worked with international development organizations and politicians in Turkey, Egypt, China, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and India, among other countries.
Alison started her career as a TV news reporter. She covered Congress, the White House and the Supreme Court. She also teaches journalism, most recently at George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs.
She has an bachelor's degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania and holds a master's degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
She lives in DC and has three boys and a funny-looking rescue dog.
